Weekly blog

I really like how the reporter interacted with the environment and the people around him, as well as using key points from other things that are happening in the world. He was well dressed and stood up tall during the interview process as well and spoke very well.

I thought the interviewer could have been more clear in what he was saying. Also, he did not really include some other things in the story that could have been key to improve the story.

For now on, when I report, I will now talk more clear and stand up taller. Also, I will take the story more seriously and focus more on the topic.

End of the year reflection.

Valuable take aways

Technology:
Throughout the year I have taken away many important values from this class, the most important thing I have taken away from this class in the technology aspect would have to be learning how to run the tri caster. I learned how to run the ti caster by live broad casting the football games. By learning how to run this I can now broadcast ONW on the tricaster and do most sporting events.

Collaboration:
Learning to work as a team could arguably be the most effective way to work. Throughout the year I have developed friendships that I would not have had formed outside of e-comm, Granted, There has been a fair share of rough patches along the way but now that we have learned to work together I believe our team can be stronger and more effective.

Communication:
Communication strongly corresponds with  collaboration as if you are working with a group your group needs to have communication and tell each other who is filming/editing, when the story needs to be done, and if you told the teacher who you are working with on the story. I have never really struggled with communication but I do believe it is a very important aspect of the class.

Project Management:
I believe that my project management skills have developed immensely throughout the year and will deeply be beneficial to me in the future. Sometimes it can be difficult if you have to go out and film a story on a Monday when you record ONW on a Tuesday so then you will have to rush back to e-comm to edit the film. This is very important as you NEED to complete stories on time to get them posted onto the website quickly and to put them on ONW now.

Leadership:
I would like to think that I am a pretty good leader, However, I have never had the opportunities. Being a producer is one job that I would like to try out in this program. Leadership is very important in this class and is a key element when being producer, and I am willing to try and do that. Next year will be my year to learn leadership and sharpen my skills.

Strengths: My strengths in this class are mostly editing and going out to get the film but i believe that I have improved my strengths on the "switcher" so now I am pretty good at that. By editing and filming this year my skills have greatly improved and I am sure that heading into senior year that I will take these skills with me.

Weaknesses: Most of my weaknesses are incorporated within the studio, such as anchoring and running the cameras. I think I need to work on these skills but mostly focus on my strengths at this point because I will not be anchoring or working on the cameras much next year.

What I will be doing with what i learned:

next year I will be incorporating all of the skills that I have learned and using them all together not only to improve my self, but the incoming juniors as well. My skills will greatly improve next year just as they did this year so I am greatly looking forward to it.

Changes:

Next year I would like to turn my weaknesses into strengths and become more of a leader/ mentor to the incoming juniors to show them how to do some of the complicated work.

Conclusion:

This year has been great I have gained great skills throughout the year from calling sports games to editing film, this year has been great and I am looking forward to the next one.

written reflection

This year in ecomm i learned a lot. I learned how to add lower thirds to an interview in final cut pro. Most most importantly throughout this year I have learned and developed my skills while working in final cut pro and perfected them. The thing i loved most about this year was the bonds that i have created with my fellow classmates and how i have learned to collaborate with them well as a group.

personal blog post (ball preview)

Scope

The main scope of this project was to make a preview of the 2016-2017 ravens boys basketball team.

Process

Throughout making this video I first had to go and grab previous clips from the last season to use as my b roll since this was a preview of the team and the season has not started yet. Next i had to edit all the clips to make it flow smoothly. The last thing i had to do was voiceovers and then i simply just uploaded it to the website and put it on the hard rive so it could go on ONW now.

Learning

Along the way my skills increased as I learned how to edit more and produce better work.

Changes

If i had to re do this whole project i would not change a thing because i thought that this one turned out pretty good and i would do everything the same.

General

From this project i will apply the interviews that i used maybe to future basketball videos that i will make because the interviews were fairly good. Overall this project was fairly easy and just like any other story we do.

Ecomm this year

By: Cooper Cate

In Ecomm this year I learned how to work more with my group. Last year, I was more individual with my work which made it harder to finish. By working as a group I realized it takes more than one person to accomplish certain goals and you really become closer together in doing so. I learned a lot of different cords and cables that will help me going forward in ecomm.

Most of the things I have learned came from my teachers throughout the years. They have taught me to collaborate with my team and also communicate throughout my group. Most of the things I have learned also have come along the way. You learn these things while working on certain  projects and developing along the way.

This information is important because it will be somewhat of a guide throughout the rest of my ecomm career. If I did not learn any of the useful skills, I would be stranded next year, and not know what to do. Hopefully these skills will guide me on a straight path and will allow me to achieve my goals next year in the ecomm program.

My greatest strengths in ecomm would definently be play by play sports broadcasting. This is really what i want to do and i am hoping i will see more of it next year. Most of my weaknesses in this class include editing and filming. I think these are my weaknesses because I do not enjoy doing them. Next year, i hope to do things that I will find fun, and i will improve my skills in them.

With what I have learned, I hope to apply this skills into next year to improve my self and my class mates. These skills will allow me to expand on my learning. These will also allow me to not have much guidance on what I do and will let me do more of what I want. I wish to go into SID next year to apply theses skills.

I would change my listening skills this year so i would be able to learn more about all the equipment. Also, i would go back and make the stories i did a little better now that i know more things i can use to apply to them. Other than those i do not think i would change anything else because it was pretty fun this year and i learned a lot.

Overall, This year was fun. I learned a lot, while making friends along the way. Not only can i apply these skills later next year, but I can apply them after in life. Ecomm has taught me a lot throughout the years and i appreciate that. I look forward to next year and the friends that i will make along the way and all the friends that I will make.

Responsive web design intro

What is responsive web design? Responsive web design is an approach to web design aimed at crafting sites to provide an optimal viewing and interaction experience. Why has responsive web design become so important? RWD has become important throughout the 2000's because of the invention of the handheld phone. With this device, without RWD it would be very difficult to see/read the actual site and how it was originally made. The media queries change depending on what device that you switch to. break points are when someone discovers a new way to display their responsive website.

Above is an example of a responsive website. This image shows how the site looks on a phone, laptop, iPad, and computer. On the computer the website expands farther across the bigger the screen is.

This photo shows a website that is on the phone. On this phone the website will be much longer and will take more time to scroll through.
On this tablet it shows how it equals all out and makes everything look normal and well finished.
